social media carousel
graphic design project
I created a social media carousel using Adobe Illustrator for my VIS 207: Introduction to Graphic Design class. While being able to choose any topic I wanted, I decided on healthy athletic fueling. More specifically, I wanted this "post" to be motivating and inspiring, targeting athletes who have experienced/are experiencing disordered eating patterns and could use some positive affirmations about eating.
As a division I college soccer player with my own past challenges with food, this topic felt deeply personal. I aimed to encourage an audience of athletes that they need enough food to perform their best. Because this is a heavy topic that's often hard to discuss, I wanted my project to have a positive tone and vibe. From my past experience, I felt that an optimistic vibe would be more easily received than a post with a grave, serious style.
To implement this energy, I used fun colors–notably aquamarine, pink, and yellow–and included vibrant cutouts of other athletes, athletic equipment, and food. I also looked for fonts that were playful but bold, eventually deciding to use Argent CF and Bimbo Pro. Together, these design choices helped create a "post" that felt positive yet approachable while discussing a difficult topic. I invite you to navigate below and see this project for yourself!
